New Delhi, Jul 7: US-based Khalistani terrorist Harpreet Singh, also known as Happy Passia, who was arrested in April and is currently in the custody of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), is likely to be repatriated to India soon, sources told NDTV on Monday.

Singh, a native of Amritsar, Punjab, is wanted in connection with at least 16 terror attacks across the state. He is accused of collaborating with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the banned Khalistani outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). Authorities allege he carried out multiple hand grenade attacks targeting police stations both in Punjab and the United States.

He was arrested on April 18 by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and ICE in a joint operation. Following his arrest, FBI Director Kash Patel posted on X: “Captured Harpreet Singh, part of an alleged foreign terrorist gang here illegally in the United States... Justice will be done.”

Patel also confirmed the FBI’s coordination with Indian agencies in the probe and vowed continued efforts to pursue those responsible for acts of terror, regardless of where they operate.

India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) had declared a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh for information leading to Singh’s arrest. He was being hunted for a hand grenade attack on a residence in Chandigarh in October last year and faces over 30 criminal cases.

Sources indicate that procedural formalities for his repatriation are nearing completion, and Singh is expected to be brought back to India shortly to face trial.
