Dubai: 26 Teams Line up for Pamboor Sevens Cricket on Feb 10

Media Release

Dubai, Jan 30: One of the biggest cricket tournaments in Dubai will take place on Friday February 10 at the Zabeel Park cricket ground with at least 26 teams lining up to battle it out in the Pamboor Sevens 7-a-side cricket tournament starting from 7 am onwards.

The one day taped ball tournament has attracted some of the top teams from all around UAE, with the first match between Weekend Warriors and Sakath Thottam scheduled to start at 7 am. The second match will be played between Suratkal Stars and Pamboorians. The final is expected to take place around 6 pm.

Winning teams will be awarded the Winny’s trophy with prize money of Dhs 3000 and the runner-up team will get the Winny’s trophy and prize money of Dhs 2000. Best performers in the finals will be given trophies too.

The draw was held at the Winny’s Restaurant with most of the teams in attendance.

Welcoming the teams, the president of the Pamboor Welfare Association Veronica Alva said, “We are overwhelmed with the response to our tournament. There were so many teams interested but we had to stop at 26 teams this year. We hope to make it bigger in the coming year.”

The draw was conducted by the Tournament director Denzil Fernandes in a professional manner. The rules were discussed and all the teams expressed their wholehearted support and cooperation for the tournament. The main sponsor of the tournament and managing director of Winny’s Restaurant Santan Alva was the chief guest for the draw ceremony and assured full support for the event.

During the reception after the draw, team manager of Suratkal Stars Sunil Pinto appreciated the efforts put in to organize the tournament with so many teams taking part. He expressed his happiness that many teams from Mangalore were in the fray which would certainly develop friendship among the communities. Same sentiments were expressed by other teams also.

Diany D’Souza compered the programme while Ashok Menezes proposed the vote of thanks. Other committee members including secretary Lester Alva, Kishore Noronha, Agnel Prakash D’Souza, Ambrose D’Souza, Pascal Mathias, William Sequeira and Anil Prakash D’Souza were also present at the grand draw.
