Mumbai, Jul 18: Prominent leaders of the Bunt community, Ermal Harish Shetty and Dinesh Ganesh Hegde, have condemned the conduct of Maharashtra MLA Sanjay Gaikwad and called upon the government to take strict action against him. They have also urged that the legislator issue a public apology for his allegedly offensive behaviour and remarks towards the Tulu community.
In a strongly worded appeal, the leaders expressed deep anguish over Gaikwad’s reported assault on an employee from their community and his derogatory statements. “We are proud members of the Tulu Nadu and Shetty community, known for standing up against oppression and living in harmony and dignity. The comments and actions of MLA Gaikwad have caused immense pain and are entirely condemnable,” they said.

Harish Shetty stated, “We are not silent spectators. Gaikwad’s behaviour is not only an insult to our community but sets a dangerous precedent. We firmly believe no individual or community should ever be subjected to such humiliation. This is a threat to future generations and the very spirit of democracy, which demands accountability from elected representatives.”
The leaders urged Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde to ensure that Gaikwad tenders a public apology and is held accountable under the law. “His remarks have deeply wounded the sentiments of the Tulu Nadu and Shetty communities, which have a rich cultural heritage and have made valuable contributions to society,” they added.
Appealing to the public to join the movement, they requested everyone to sign the petition and support the call for appropriate action against Gaikwad. “We must unite to ensure that no other community or individual faces such disrespect in the future. Let us raise our collective voice for justice and dignity,” said Dinesh Hegde and Harish Shetty.
