Media Release

Udupi, Jul 22: St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady, took a commendable step towards student safety by organizing a fire safety awareness programme on July 18. The event, held at St Mary’s Auditorium, included an informative talk and a practical mock drill, aimed at educating students on crucial fire safety measures and emergency evacuation procedures.

The chief guest for the event was M Keshava Raghavendra, a senior fire officer from Udupi District. In his address, Raghavendra shared valuable insights on the causes of different types of fires and the proper use of various types of fire extinguishers. He also discussed key emergency response strategies and the importance of remaining calm and alert during such situations.

The theoretical session was followed by a practical demonstration conducted by Raghavendra and his team of five members from the district fire department. Using a fully equipped fire safety vehicle, the team showcased how fire safety equipment functions, giving students a rare opportunity to witness real-time safety techniques and protocols in action.

A highly interactive question and answer session rounded off the programme, allowing students to clarify their doubts and deepen their understanding of fire safety and emergency responses. The school’s proactive initiative was widely appreciated by both students and staff.

Principal Fr Vijay D’Souza and vice principal Rita Quadros were present during the programme and lauded the efforts of the fire department in making the session both educational and engaging.
