Pune, Jul 23: Just days after a shard of glass was discovered in a bun maska at Pune’s iconic Goodluck Cafe on Fergusson College Road, the brand finds itself in hot water again—this time after a cockroach was found in an anda bhurji at its Mumbai-Pune Expressway outlet.
According to ABP Majha, the unsettling discovery was made at the café located in the expressway’s Food Plaza, sending shockwaves across social media and sparking public outrage.
Following the earlier glass-in-food incident, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had revoked the Fergusson Road café’s license, directing immediate improvements in hygiene standards. The outlet remains shut pending compliance.
Now, with another outlet under scrutiny, questions are mounting over Goodluck Café’s hygiene protocols across its expanding chain. The recurrence of such incidents has severely dented public trust, especially as the brand holds iconic status in Pune’s food landscape.
The FDA is expected to launch a fresh investigation into the latest complaint. Consumers are now demanding consistent enforcement of food safety regulations and swift accountability.
Founded in 1935 by Hussain Ali Yakshi, Goodluck Café is a historic Irani restaurant best known for its bun maska, Irani chai, and old-world charm. From its landmark location at Goodluck Chowk on FC Road, the brand has expanded to areas like Viman Nagar, Baner, Kothrud, Manik Baug, Sinhgad Road, and along the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.
But with food safety now under the scanner, the legacy café must act fast to regain public confidence—or risk losing its once-sterling reputation.
