Udupi, Jul 24: A very insightful and informative talk on 'Banking Trends and Job Opportunities' in HDFC Bank was made by Prasad Prabhu, branch head, HDFC Bank, Shirva branch, for the students of 1st and 2nd year MBA students on July 21.
Prasad Prabhu started the talk with certain assumptions during his early years about banks, that banks are all about rich people saving their extra money safely. Today, banks play diverse roles, marketing different products like deposits, different types of loans – personal, educational, vehicle, housing, etc. In addition, there are also insurance products, credit cards, forex transactions making banks a financial super market today

But how does a bank grow and earn profits? Prasad Prabhu shared his insights here sharing that banks earn profits through loans rather than deposits and credit cards. While they share a 4-6% interest on deposits, they earn 9 to 10% on loans given, thus earning their profits.
With new branches coming up in rural areas, it has the challenge of acquiring new customers and ensuring there is growth and profits year on year. He also shared that there are many opportunities for employment with new branch openings and hence encouraged the students to think and launch their career with HDFC.
Regarding how AI and automation has changed banking, openings for HR, finance and marketing and skills required for each position, banking exams and registrations, training, etc. Prasad answered all the queries raised by students.
