World Chess Day celebrated with enthusiasm at Mother Teresa Memorial School, Shankaranarayana

Kundapur, Jul 25: Mother Teresa Memorial School celebrated World Chess Day with great enthusiasm by organizing an interclass chess championship on July 20. The event, held at the Roupya Hall of the Pragathi Block, brought together over 80 students from Grade VI to PUC, marking a vibrant and intellectually stimulating celebration of the ancient game of strategy.

A notable feature of this year’s event was the participation of class VI students for the first time, introducing them to the world of critical thinking, concentration, and competitive play. The programme began with a soulful prayer rendered by the students of grade VI, setting a reflective tone for the day.

The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Renita Lobo and Shamitha Rao, founders and managing trustees of the Mother Teresa Memorial Education Trust, Sakshath, FIDE Arbiter, and Rahul, National Arbiter, representing the Sri Narayana Guru School of Chess, along with faculty members Satish, Pradeep, and Chidanand from the department of physical education.

The chess tournament was ceremoniously inaugurated by Sakshath and Satish, chess in-charge, who made the first symbolic moves on the chessboard. A memento was presented to the dignitaries by the school management as a token of appreciation for their contribution to the promotion of chess. Sakshath addressed the students, explaining the basic rules and strategies of the game, sparking curiosity and interest among the budding players. Shamitha Rao also spoke at the event, extending her encouragement and best wishes to all participants.

From class 6 Sanvika S Shetty secured first place while Pawan Udupa and Sukri Mohammed Mehran secured second and third place respectively. Sakshith Shetty from class 7 secures first place and Sindhu Madhyastha and Vaishnavi secures second and third place respectively. In class 8, Kishan Shetty secured first place while Hruthik and Sushanth Shetty secured second and third place. From class 9, Charishma Shetty secured first place while Varsha A and Nikhith P secured second and third place respectively. From class 10, Preetham G secured first and Nivedan and Nandashree Shetty secured second and third place respectively. In PUC section Gagan from first science secured first place and Gagana from first science secured second place.

College sports captains Akshay (II SC) and Amulya (II BS) welcomed the guests with floral tributes, adding a warm touch to the formal proceedings. Alita D'Sa, director of cultural and linguistic development compered the programme.
