Hyderabad, Jul 26: A birthday party in Hyderabad’s Abdullapurmet turned into a scene of horror on Thursday evening when a 35-year-old woman was brutally murdered by her estranged husband in front of stunned guests, including children.

The victim, S Sammakka, who had recently separated from her husband S Srinu (50), was attending a birthday celebration at the home of Srinu’s niece, Rajeswari. The event was in honour of Rajeswari’s 14-year-old daughter.

According to police, the tragedy unfolded around 7:15 pm, just before the cake-cutting ceremony. As Sammakka stood recording the festivities on her mobile phone, Srinu arrived uninvited, pulled out a knife, and stabbed her three times in the neck.

Eyewitnesses stated that Srinu shouted allegations of infidelity as he carried out the attack. Sammakka collapsed and died on the spot, sending the gathering into chaos and shock.

Abdullapurmet police said the murder was a result of long-standing marital discord. Srinu, who has children with both Sammakka and his ailing first wife, suspected Sammakka of having an extramarital affair.

Following the crime, Srinu fled the scene, reportedly threatening others with the knife. He was apprehended by police in Hayathnagar on Friday evening.

A murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered. Sammakka’s mobile phone, believed to have captured the incident, has been seized, and her body was sent to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem.
