Mangaluru: St Aloysius Pre-University College inaugurates CSC for academic year

Media Release

Mangaluru, Jul 26: St Aloysius Pre-University College has always aimed to instil a genuine sense of social responsibility in its students, encouraging them to become men and women for and with others. In alignment with this vision, the Centre for Social Concern (CSC) was inaugurated for the academic year, reaffirming its mission to engage students in meaningful outreach initiatives and service activities.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of the principal, Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ; alumna and former president of CSC, Venus Wilfred Lewis; vice principal (Commerce & Arts), Vilma Fernandes; the Deans, Kiran Shetty and Inas Dais; and members of the Student Council.

The event began with a prayer service, setting a solemn and reflective tone, followed by the lighting of the lamp. The president of CSC, Adwaith C K, delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the event. A special highlight was the unveiling of the CSC logo, which marked a new identity and visual representation for the Centre. II PU student Ashlyne Vismaya Lobo, the designer of the logo, was felicitated and recognised for her creative contribution.

In his address, Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ reflected on the current societal pursuit of success and achievement. He reminded the audience of a deeper calling: to love, give, help, and care for others- and encouraged students to lead lives rooted in purpose and compassion.

A video presentation showcasing the CSC’s vision, previous outreach activities, and future plans was screened, followed by an engaging and humorous interactive session by the resource person, Venus Wilfred Lewis. Drawing from her personal journey, she shared the challenges she faced in balancing academic responsibilities with her CSC commitments, ultimately graduating with distinction- a testament to her discipline and dedication.

Venus also recounted a moving story that revealed the harsh realities of the underprivileged and solidified her commitment to social change. Her words powerfully conveyed the true purpose of CSC: to awaken a social conscience and inspire action.

As a token of appreciation, a memento was presented to Venus. CSC staff coordinators - Srilatha R Shenoy, Chaithra V Bhaktha, James Cyprian D’Souza, Josma Nithisha Lobo, Debasmita Mukherjee, Snehal Peris, and Karthika Nair- were present on the occasion. The programme was compered by II PU student Janhavi Jasmine D’Souza, while Aanchal Peris, secretary of CSC, proposed the vote of thanks.
