Aurangabad, Jul 26: In a shocking crime, a 22-year-old youth allegedly murdered his 19-year-old girlfriend and dumped her body in Daulatabad Ghat after she reportedly demanded Rs 1 lakh and threatened to file a rape case against him.

The accused, Sunil Suresh Khandagale, a resident of Mandki village in Vaijapur taluka, surrendered before Shiur police on Friday morning and confessed to the crime.

The deceased, Dipali Ganesh Aswar, hailed from Maliwada and was living with her sister in Kannad. Police said Khandagale and Aswar had been in a relationship for several months.

According to police, Khandagale took Dipali out on a motorcycle on Thursday. The two reportedly spent the day together before an argument broke out. Dipali allegedly demanded Rs 1 lac and threatened to accuse him of rape if he didn’t comply.

In a fit of rage, Khandagale allegedly smashed her head with a stone, killing her on the spot. He then transported the body to Daulatabad Ghat and dumped it in a gorge.

On Friday morning, the accused walked into Shiur police station and confessed. The Shiur police immediately alerted Daulatabad police, following which Inspector Rekha Londhe and her team launched a search operation in the ghat area.

Meanwhile, another team took Khandagale into custody. Based on a complaint filed by Dipali’s father, a case of murder was registered at Daulatabad police station.

Police revealed that Dipali was married as a minor and had been living separately from her husband due to disputes. She was also the mother of a two-year-old girl and had come into contact with Khandagale after her separation.
