KTR offered BRS-BJP merger to Halt ED probe against Kavitha, claims BJP MP

Hyderabad, Jul 27: A major political row has erupted in Telangana after BJP MP CM Ramesh accused BRS Working President K T Rama Rao (KTR) of offering to merge the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) with the BJP in exchange for halting ongoing ED and CBI investigations against his sister K Kavitha and others.

Speaking to the media, CM Ramesh claimed, “Did KTR forget that he came to my house in Delhi? It’s on CCTV—I can share it with the media. Didn’t he ask for the ED and CBI probes to be stopped and request me to talk to the Home Minister? He even proposed merging BRS with BJP if the investigation was stopped.”

KTR, however, strongly denied the allegations, asserting that the BRS was formed for the welfare of Telangana and would never merge with any party. He accused the BJP and Congress of using such "diversionary tactics" to deflect attention from their own alleged corruption.

Escalating the war of words, KTR alleged a secret deal between Telangana CM Revanth Reddy and BJP MP Ramesh in awarding large government contracts to Andhra Pradesh-based firms. He challenged both leaders to a public debate on the issue.

Responding to the allegations, Ramesh defended the Greenfield road project, stating, “Big companies like L&T, MEIL, and Rithwik competed. As per norms, the contract was awarded to Rithwik.” He added that although the firm belongs to his son, he is not a director.

Ramesh also accused KTR of political bias in sidelining senior leaders. “When I asked him why he let go of Tummala, he said Kammas are with Chandrababu Naidu and Reddys with Revanth. They’ve chosen to side with Jagan,” he claimed.

He further alleged that KTR fears a BJP-TDP alliance in Telangana, which could wipe out the BRS, prompting him to make "baseless accusations."
