Guwahati, Jul 30: Popular Assamese film actress Nandini Kashyap has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run accident that led to the tragic death of a 21-year-old student in Guwahati. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of July 25 in Dakhingaon, has sent shockwaves across the state.
The victim, Samiul Haque, a student of Nalbari Polytechnic and an employee of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, was returning home around 3 am after completing a light installation project when a speeding Scorpio SUV allegedly driven by Kashyap ran him over. Eyewitnesses claimed the actress did not stop to help and fled the scene immediately.

Haque, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the night of July 29. His death turned the case from a bailable offence into a non-bailable one.
According to police sources, the SUV was later traced to an apartment in Kahilipara, where Kashyap reportedly attempted to hide the vehicle. Videos that have gone viral show Haque’s colleagues confronting the actress at the location.
Confirming the arrest, Guwahati DCP (Traffic) Jayanta Sarathi Borah stated, “We arrested actor Nandini Kashyap today in the hit-and-run case. Earlier, we had only questioned her as the case was filed under bailable sections. However, following the victim’s death, we added charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. These are non-bailable, and she will be produced in court.”
Kashyap, who recently starred in the successful Assamese film Rudra, has not issued any public statement so far. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many demanding strict action and justice for the deceased student.
