New Delhi, Jul 30: In a sharp rebuttal during a Rajya Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Wednesday firmly dismissed speculation about any recent phone calls between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former U.S. President Donald Trump, asserting that no such contact occurred between April 22 and June 16.
“Let me make this absolutely clear—there was not a single phone call between PM Modi and President Trump during that period,” Jaishankar declared, urging critics to “listen carefully” and stop spreading misinformation.
Addressing concerns about external involvement in India-Pakistan matters, Jaishankar reiterated India’s consistent non-acceptance of third-party mediation, emphasizing that all matters with Pakistan must be handled bilaterally through formal military channels such as the DGMO (Director General of Military Operations).

“We made it clear to all foreign interlocutors: there would be no external mediation. Our response [to attacks] would continue until Pakistan formally requested a ceasefire through proper channels,” he said.
Jaishankar also used the occasion to target the Congress party, accusing it of discomfort with India's past, particularly on issues like Kashmir and the Indus Water Treaty. He called the treaty “one-sided” and “historically generous,” referencing a 1960 statement by Jawaharlal Nehru, which, he said, ignored Indian farmers in favor of Pakistani interests.
“Nehru explicitly stated that the treaty was to help Pakistani Punjab—there was no mention of Indian states like Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, or Gujarat,” Jaishankar pointed out.
He concluded by crediting Prime Minister Modi for “corrective actions” on legacy issues such as the Indus Treaty and Article 370, calling them steps to undo “historical mistakes.”
