Hyderabad, Jul 31: In a major crackdown on international drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Wednesday seized 400 kilograms of high-grade hydroponic ganja, valued at approximately Rs 40 crore, from a woman passenger at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, NCB officials intercepted the woman and discovered the massive cache of contraband concealed within her two check-in bags. The seizure marks one of the largest busts of hydroponic cannabis in recent times at any Indian airport.

According to official sources, the woman had sourced the banned substance from Bangkok and took a transit route via Dubai in an apparent attempt to evade detection. Authorities revealed that this indirect routing was likely chosen to mislead security, as multiple seizures in recent months have involved passengers flying directly from Bangkok into Indian airports.
The NCB confirmed that further investigations are underway to trace the woman’s links in both Thailand and India, and to determine the extent of the smuggling network.
Officials stated that hydroponic Ganja, which is cultivated using advanced water-based techniques under controlled environments, is in high demand in illicit markets due to its potent quality.
The arrested woman is being questioned by NCB sleuths, and more arrests are expected as the probe progresses.
