Mangaluru, Aug 5: A J Institute of Speech and Hearing proudly hosted the inaugural edition of AJISHCUP 2025, an inter-speech and hearing college football tournament that brought together teams from premier institutions across Mangaluru. Held on a Saturday afternoon from 1 pm to 6 pm at Futsal Dugout, Pandeshwar, the event marked a significant milestone in promoting sportsmanship and unity among speech and hearing colleges.
The tournament was officially inaugurated by Rashmi A Pai, head of the department at A J Institute of Speech and Hearing, who commenced the day’s proceedings with a ceremonial kick-off. Her presence and opening remarks set the tone for a day of spirited matches and enthusiastic participation. The event was envisioned not only as a sporting competition but also as a platform to strengthen professional camaraderie and holistic development among students from the field of speech and hearing.

Teams from Nitte Institute of Speech and Hearing, Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing, Kasturba Medical College Mangaluru, and the host institution, A J Institute of Speech and Hearing, participated in the tournament. Each team displayed commendable skill, coordination, and sportsmanship throughout the matches. Alongside the players, faculty and staff members from the participating institutions were also present to cheer for and support their respective teams, adding to the spirit of encouragement and solidarity that defined the day.
After a series of closely contested matches, the department of audiology and speech language pathology, Kasturba Medical College Mangaluru, emerged victorious, securing the winner’s trophy, while A J Institute of Speech and Hearing claimed the runner-up position. Individual recognitions were awarded to Sidharth P S as the best player of the tournament, and Rufaid Muhammed as the best goalkeeper, both of whom impressed spectators with their performance and dedication.
The tournament concluded with a vibrant valedictory ceremony, presided over by Dr Pradeep Senapathi, professor in the department of community medicine at A J Institute of Medical Sciences, Mangaluru. In his address, Dr Senapathi applauded the organizers for their meticulous efforts and appreciated the participants for exhibiting remarkable sportsmanship and dedication. He emphasized the significance of such events in promoting physical well-being and strengthening the sense of community among student professionals.
Adding further significance to the event was the presence of representatives and sponsors from Cozy Heaven Homestays Wayanad, Vikas Enterprises Mangaluru, Ideal Speech and Hearing Solutions Mangaluru, i-Chase Mangaluru, and Grand Royal Vistara Calicut, whose support contributed to the success and smooth execution of the tournament.
An essential part of the day’s seamless execution was the dedicated commentary and announcements team. Varsha Prabhu led the event commentary, supported by student emcees Aysha Rifa and Hania Nafeesa, who actively assisted from start to finish, keeping the audience engaged and the event running smoothly. Equally vital were Hridikram C V and Nuha Rasheed, who efficiently managed the first aid and registration desks, ensuring readiness and coordination throughout the event.
The coordination of John O Pious and Joylin Deepthi, along with the tireless support of the student committee including Waseem P N and Muhammed Mishal K, played a pivotal role in the event’s success. With the inaugural AJISHCUP setting a high benchmark, A J Institute of Speech and Hearing looks forward to making this an annual tradition that continues to inspire unity, sportsmanship, and professional growth among speech and hearing colleges in the region.
