Nagpur, Aug 8: In a dramatic turn of events, a man in Nagpur has been arrested for targeting liquor shops and bars, allegedly driven by rage over his father's death due to alcohol addiction.

The accused, identified as Raja Khan, was arrested after CCTV footage helped police crack a theft case reported on July 31 at a bar in the city. The bar owner, Nilesh Devani, had filed a complaint alleging theft of around Rs 40,000, including Rs 36,000 in cash and several cigarette packets.

“The CCTV footage showed a person of small build lifting the shutter and entering the premises. We tracked him down and during questioning, he confessed to the crime,” a police official said.

Khan, during interrogation, revealed that he blamed wine shop and bar owners for his father’s death caused by excessive drinking. In a bizarre act of vengeance, he admitted to stealing from at least eight bars and liquor outlets across the city.

“He told us his father was a regular at these shops and succumbed to his addiction. This fuelled his anger and he began targeting such establishments,” the official added.

Ironically, police found that Raja Khan himself is now addicted to marijuana, highlighting the tragic cycle of substance abuse that continues to affect families across the region.
