Mumbai, Aug 19: Over 200 passengers were stranded inside a Mumbai Monorail near Mysore Colony station on Tuesday evening after a power supply failure brought the service to a halt between Chembur and Bhakti Park. The incident, which occurred around 6:15 p.m., triggered a large-scale emergency response led by the Mumbai Fire Brigade and coordinated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Passengers trapped inside the stalled monorail alerted emergency services via the BMC helpline 1916. In response, three fire brigade snorkel vehicles were dispatched to the site for the rescue operation. BMC's medical teams, ambulances, and nearby municipal hospitals were placed on high alert, while BEST deployed buses to aid rescued commuters.

Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani oversaw the response, ensuring swift coordination among agencies. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the incident on X, urging calm and assuring the public that all passengers would be safely evacuated. He also confirmed that an inquiry would be conducted to determine the cause of the breakdown.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which operates the monorail, said the issue was due to a "minor power supply glitch" and confirmed that services between Wadala and Chembur were continuing on a single line while the affected train was being addressed.

Rescue operations remain ongoing, with officials prioritising passenger safety and working to restore full monorail services as quickly as possible.
