Dispur, Sep 3: Assam Police have arrested a 32-year-old man from West Bengal’s Murshidabad district for allegedly forging identity documents and posing under a fake name to maintain a relationship with a local woman in Silchar.
The accused has been identified as Moinul Islam. Police sources revealed that Moinul had been living in Silchar for the past few months under the assumed name of Sajal Das, while working in a petty door-to-door marketing business.
In order to support his false identity, the accused allegedly produced forged Aadhaar and voter ID cards. Locals grew suspicious after they noticed frequent visits of a woman to his rented accommodation. While he reportedly introduced her as his wife, residents later learnt that the two were not legally married.

The matter came to light on Sunday when the woman once again visited his house. A group of neighbours confronted Moinul, following which an altercation broke out. He was roughed up by the residents before being handed over to the police.
During the probe, police recovered the forged documents in the name of Sajal Das as well as his original identity papers confirming him as Moinul Islam. Further investigation is underway, officials added.
