Raghav Chadha sanctions Rs 3.25 cr from MPLADS for Punjab flood relief

Punjab, Sep 3: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha on Wednesday announced financial assistance of Rs 3.25 cr from his MPLADS funds to aid relief and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-hit regions of Punjab. 

The Rajya Sabha MP, in a video appeal, expressed solidarity with the people of Punjab, prayed for the safety of families, and condoled the loss of more than 30 lives caused by the floods. 

Of the sanctioned amount, Rs 2.75 cr will be utilised for strengthening and repairing flood protection embankments in Gurdaspur district, one of the worst-affected regions. Another Rs 50 lac has been allocated to Amritsar district for relief and rehabilitation measures. 
 
“This is Punjab’s money, for Punjab’s people,” Chadha said emotionally, stressing the urgency of providing immediate assistance to all affected areas. He further pledged to raise the matter in Parliament while appealing to the Centre for maximum support to the state. 

The MP also extended gratitude to the Indian Army, BSF, Punjab Police, NDRF, NGOs, civil society groups, and local youth volunteers who have been at the forefront of rescue and relief operations.  

Punjab has been reeling under one of the worst floods in decades. According to a state government bulletin, 12 districts have been severely affected due to overflowing rivers, while 23 districts in total have been declared flood-hit. Thousands of families have been displaced, farmlands submerged, and livestock lost to the rising waters. 

Official estimates confirm that at least 30 lives have been lost so far as the state continues to battle the calamity.
