Kerala BJP Chief slams FIR over ‘Operation Sindoor’ Pookkalam, demands withdrawal

Kollam, Sep 7: Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Saturday strongly criticised the FIR lodged by Sasthamcotta Police against two RSS workers for creating a Pookkalam carrying the words “Operation Sindoor”, terming it an insult to terror victims and soldiers.

The floral carpet, made outside the Parthasarathy temple in Kollam, displayed an RSS flag and the words “Operation Sindoor”. Police registered a case alleging that RSS supporters, along with nearly 25 others, attempted to provoke tensions by putting up a flag pole and flex boards, despite earlier instructions not to use political symbols in the Pookkalam.

“This is Kerala. It is a proud part of India. Yet, an FIR has been lodged for making a Pookkalam with the words ‘Operation Sindoor’. Absolutely unacceptable!” Chandrasekhar posted on X.

Calling Operation Sindoor a symbol of India’s military valour, he said, “This FIR is an insult to the 26 innocent victims of terror, their families, and every soldier who defends India with his blood and sacrifice. Thousands of Malayalis guard our borders and lay down their lives for the Tricolour. This appeasement politics will be opposed.”

The BJP chief also warned that Kerala “is not, and will never be, a land ruled by Jamaat-e-Islami or Pakistan,” demanding that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan withdraw the “shameful and seditious FIR immediately.”

Police maintained that the move violated prior agreements made with both CPI(M) and BJP workers, as the area had witnessed political clashes earlier. A case has been registered under sections related to attempts to incite riots.
