Kolkata, Sept 7: Tension gripped West Bengal’s Nadia district as police arrested four individuals in connection with the murder of a young boy in Nischintapur village. The arrests were made on Sunday, even as no one has yet been held for the mob lynching of a couple accused of killing the child — a violent act that has sparked public outrage and widespread fear in the area.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Chotu Mondal, Kartik Mondal, Suchitra Mondal, and Supriya Bhowmik, police said. All four are expected to be produced in court, where authorities will seek 14-day police custody for further investigation.

Police say efforts are underway to trace others who may be involved, including those responsible for the mob violence that led to the brutal killing of Utpal Biswas (45) and his wife Soma Biswas (38).
The tragic sequence of events began on Friday afternoon, when Swarnabha Biswas, a Class 3 student, went missing while playing in a nearby field. After a night-long search yielded no results, his body was discovered wrapped in a tarpaulin and floating in a pond near the Biswas couple’s home on Saturday morning.
Enraged locals accused the couple of involvement in the boy’s death, beat them to death, and set their house on fire, according to police reports. A third person was injured in the attack and is currently being treated in hospital.
A senior district police officer confirmed: “Four people have been arrested in connection with the child’s murder. We are actively searching for those involved in the lynching of the couple. The investigation is ongoing.”
The horrific incident has sent shockwaves across the state, raising serious concerns over mob justice and an alleged child trafficking racket in the region. Civil rights activists and opposition leaders have called for an impartial probe and accountability from law enforcement.
As fear and unrest continue in Nischintapur, authorities have stepped up patrolling and surveillance in the area to prevent further violence.
