Cycling for change: Aravalli’s ‘Sundays on Cycle’ promotes fitness and eco-awareness

Aravalli, Sept 7: As part of the nationwide Fit India Movement, the Aravalli district administration in Gujarat held a vibrant edition of ‘Sundays on Cycle’, drawing hundreds of enthusiastic cyclists to the streets to promote fitness, environmental awareness, and road safety.

Led by District Collector Prashasti Parik, the event saw participation from school students, senior citizens, government officials, social organisations, and everyday citizens — all pedalling together in the early morning hours.

Speaking to reporters, Collector Parik said the initiative is rooted in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a healthier, “Obesity-Free India.” She noted, “Whether it’s summer, winter or monsoon, we step out to cycle every Sunday. The turnout is growing each week, and it’s becoming a truly people-driven movement.”

The event, which started on January 5, 2025, is now a weekly affair, with a focus not just on physical health, but also on encouraging cycling as a sustainable lifestyle choice.

Modasa Mayor Neeraj Seth highlighted the broader impact of the programme, stating that it not only strengthens the Fit India campaign but also builds awareness around safe cycling practices, including helmet use and traffic discipline.

Organisers say the initiative will continue to expand in scale and participation — with an aim to make fitness a community habit, not just an individual goal.
