Bulandshahr, Sep 27: In a shocking incident, a 40-year-old man was detained for allegedly strangling his minor daughter to death in Bulandshahr district, police said on Friday.

The victim, identified as Sonam (13), a Class 7 student and resident of Bichaula village, was found dead in bushes under a bridge in the Anupshahr police station limits. Police received a call around 4 pm on Friday about a girl’s body in a school uniform and rushed to the spot to begin investigation.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Sonam had attended school on Thursday and was picked up by her father, Ajay Sharma, after classes. During questioning, Sharma allegedly confessed to taking his daughter to his field, strangling her with a scarf, and dumping her body into a canal. Her school bag was later recovered from the field based on his statement.

According to police, Sharma claimed that Sonam had been stealing money from home for the past few days, which led to frequent arguments between her parents. After the crime, he reportedly informed the school that his daughter had gone to stay with relatives and would not attend classes for three to four days.

Authorities have detained Sharma and further investigation is underway.
