Four workers injured in gas cylinder blast at Ghatkopar construction site

Mumbai, Oct 1: A powerful gas cylinder explosion at a temporary shed for construction workers left four men seriously injured in Ghatkopar on Tuesday night, creating panic in the area.

The incident took place near the under-construction seven-storey Neeldhara building, opposite Jain Mandir, on the 60-foot road close to Vidyaniketan College in Ghatkopar East. According to eyewitnesses, the blast was so loud that it shook the entire neighbourhood. The explosion triggered a fire inside the shed, which was quickly brought under control by the fire brigade.

The injured workers were rushed to Rajawadi Hospital. Officials said two of them suffered 60% to 70% burns and are in critical condition.

The injured were identified as:

1. Ghanshyam Yadav (36) – 60% to 70% burns, critical condition
2. Devendra Pal (26) – 60% to 70% burns, critical condition
3. Mahendra Chaudhary (32) – 10% to 12% burns, stable condition
4. Sandeep Pal (20) – 5% burns, stable condition

Hospital authorities confirmed that while two victims remain critical, the other two are out of danger.

The incident occurred even as the city was immersed in Navratri celebrations, leaving the local community deeply shocked and saddened. Police have begun inquiries into the cause of the explosion.
