Mangaluru: Rachana honours excellence across diverse fields at prestigious awards ceremony

Mangaluru, Oct 6: Rachana – the Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, conferred its prestigious Rachana Awards 2023–25 on five eminent personalities from various fields during a grand celebration held at Milagres Jubilee Hall, Mangaluru, on Sunday, October 5, from 6 pm onwards.

The evening commenced with a vibrant performance by a brass band at the entrance, setting a festive tone. The dignitaries were escorted to the dais by president John B Monteiro, secretary Vijay V Lobo, and coordinator Eulalia D’Souza, and welcomed with floral bouquets.

The event was presided over by Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangalore, and graced by chief guest K J George, minister for energy, government of Karnataka. The guests of honour included Ivan D’Souza (MLC, government of Karnataka), John Sunil (Group CEO, Burjeel Holdings UAE), and Dr Cynthia Menezes (dean and director, former acting vice-chancellor, Bangalore University).

After a solemn prayer song, the gathering was warmly welcomed by president John B Monteiro. Coordinator Eulalia D’Souza delivered the keynote address, outlining the significance and legacy of the Rachana Awards.

The following distinguished individuals were felicitated for their outstanding contributions:

• Rachana Entrepreneur Award: Austin Roach, Bengaluru
• Rachana Professional Award: John Richard Lobo, KAS, Mangaluru
• Rachana Agriculturist Award: Dr Godwin Rodrigues, PhD, Belvai, Mangaluru
• Rachana NRI Entrepreneur Award: Pratap Mendonca, Dubai
• Rachana Outstanding Woman Award: Shobha Mendonca, Dubai

Each awardee was honoured with a shawl, citation, urmaal/turban, garland, fruits, and a prestigious award memento. They also shared their reflections, gratitude, and inspiring personal journeys with the audience.

In his address, chief guest K J George lauded the significant contributions of Konkani-speaking Christians and recalled the legacy of past Christian leaders in politics and governance.

MLC Ivan D’Souza encouraged the community to assert their identity through active participation in business, politics, and government services. Dr Cynthia Menezes urged the youth to make wise and timely decisions to ensure a successful future. John Sunil appreciated Rachana for its role in identifying and honouring deserving achievers, while Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha commended Rachana for enabling success stories within the community and serving as a beacon of inspiration.

The evening also included the felicitation of sponsors, benefactors, contributors, media personnel, and former presidents of Rachana. Mementos were presented to the guests and MCs. Secretary Vijay V Lobo delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging everyone who contributed to the success of the event.

The programme was expertly compered by Dr Jessica Monteiro and Royston Pinto. The celebrations concluded with DJ entertainment by Robin Sequeira, followed by a sumptuous dinner catered by Flan Caterers.
