New Delhi, Oct 23: In a major breakthrough, four most-wanted gangsters from Bihar were killed in a police encounter early Thursday in Northwest Delhi. The gangsters belonged to the notorious Sigma Gang, known for extortion and contract killings across Bihar.

The encounter occurred around 2:20 a.m., when Delhi and Bihar Police teams attempted to intercept the gang members. The accused allegedly opened fire while trying to escape, prompting retaliatory action by the police. All four sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, Rohini, where they were declared dead.

The deceased have been identified as Ranjan Pathak (25), the gang leader, Bimlesh Mahto (25), Manish Pathak (33), and Aman Thakur (21). Over the years, the Sigma Gang had built a vast criminal network involved in murder, extortion, and organised crime in Bihar.

Ranjan Pathak, who had a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, was wanted in eight criminal cases, including five high-profile murders in Sitamarhi and neighbouring districts. Delhi Police sources revealed that Pathak had been openly challenging law enforcement through social media and audio messages, and a recently recovered clip reportedly detailed a major conspiracy the gang was planning ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.

The Sigma Gang, active for nearly seven years, had reportedly regrouped in Delhi to evade police action in Bihar. Authorities had been tracking their movements for several days before launching the operation.

Following the encounter, the area was cordoned off, and forensic teams collected evidence. Investigations are ongoing to trace the remaining gang network and uncover potential links.
