Mirzapur, Oct 26: In a tragic incident in Semri village, Kachhwa, Uttar Pradesh, a mentally challenged woman reportedly killed her two young children before taking her own life on Saturday evening, police said.

The deceased woman, Sangeeta (35), wife of Harishchandra, allegedly stuffed cloth in the mouths of her children — Shivansh (3 years 8 months) and Shubhankar (14 months) — and strangled them to death, according to Kachhwa SHO Amarjeet Singh. She then hanged herself from the roof of her kutcha house using a coir rope.

Her husband was not at home at the time of the incident and returned after being informed. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, said Circle Officer (Sadar) Amar Bahadur. He added that Sangeeta had returned to her in-laws’ home from her maternal home in Chandauli district on Saturday morning.

Police confirmed that a detailed investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway, including understanding the woman’s mental health history and other contributing factors.

The tragic case has left the local community in shock, highlighting the need for awareness and support for families dealing with mental health challenges.
