Gujarat, Oct 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid floral tributes to India’s first Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat’s Narmada district, commemorating his 150th birth anniversary.

The day, celebrated as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) since 2014, honours Patel’s pivotal role in uniting the nation and his enduring legacy as the “Iron Man of India.”

PM Modi offered flowers at the 182-metre-tall Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar before proceeding to administer the Ekta Diwas pledge and attend the National Unity Day parade.

This year’s event featured a vibrant cultural festival and a grand parade with contingents from the BSF, CRPF, and various state police forces. The parade, modelled on the Republic Day celebrations, highlighted India’s unity in diversity and paid tribute to Sardar Patel’s vision of a strong, united nation.
