Rohtak, Oct 31: Tension gripped the campus of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, after a shocking incident came to light in which women sanitation workers were allegedly forced by their supervisors to undress and get their sanitary napkins photographed to “prove” they were menstruating.

The alleged incident occurred on October 26 when several women staffers reported late for duty. According to the victims, the supervisors — identified as Vinod and Jitendra — confronted them for the delay. When the women explained they were on their menstrual cycles and feeling unwell, the supervisors accused them of lying and reportedly demanded proof.

The women alleged that they were ordered to remove their clothes and were taken to the washroom by another female staffer, who was instructed to photograph their sanitary pads as “evidence.” Two of the women who refused were allegedly abused and threatened with dismissal from work.

As the distressing news spread across the campus, fellow workers and students, along with student organisations, launched a massive protest demanding strict action. Photos and videos of the incident were also shared with the State Women Commission.
Police said an FIR has been registered against both supervisors under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sexual harassment, assault with intent to disrobe, criminal intimidation, and acts intended to outrage a woman’s modesty. “A thorough investigation is underway, and the accused will face strict legal action,” confirmed Roshan Lal, Station House Officer at PGIMS Police Station.

Meanwhile, the university administration has termed the incident “deeply disturbing” and said an internal inquiry has been initiated. “The safety and respect of women are paramount. Any form of inappropriate behaviour or misconduct will not be tolerated,” the university stated, adding that those found guilty will face the strictest action.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage across Haryana, with women’s rights groups and student organisations condemning the act as “inhuman and degrading.”
