New Delhi, Nov 3: In a gruesome incident that has shocked the capital, a 32-year-old UPSC aspirant, Ramkesh Meena, was found dead in his burnt apartment at Gandhi Vihar, North Delhi, earlier this month. Investigations later revealed that he was murdered by his girlfriend, Amrita Chauhan, along with two accomplices, who then allegedly set his body on fire to erase evidence.
According to police, the incident took place on the night of October 5, when Amrita, along with her ex-boyfriend Sumit Kashyap and his associate Sandeep Kumar, visited Ramkesh’s flat. The trio allegedly strangled him to death and then set the apartment ablaze using wine, ghee, and oil, placing a gas cylinder near his head to make it appear like an accidental fire.

Firefighters recovered Ramkesh’s charred remains in the early hours of October 6, initially suspecting a gas leak accident. However, CCTV footage from a nearby building showed two masked individuals leaving the premises minutes before the explosion, prompting a deeper investigation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia confirmed that Amrita was traced through her call records and was later arrested from Moradabad. Kashyap and Kumar were nabbed in separate operations on October 21 and 23.
During interrogation, Amrita reportedly confessed that the murder was planned after Ramkesh refused to delete intimate videos of her from his hard disk. The police said she feared he might misuse the footage. Forensic experts have recovered the hard disk, which allegedly contains 16 intimate videos involving other women as well.
Ramkesh, a native of Dausa district, Rajasthan, had an engineering degree from Netaji Subhas University of Technology and was preparing for the UPSC civil services examination while living alone in Gandhi Vihar, a hub for aspirants.
Investigators revealed that Amrita had studied forensic science and used her knowledge to help stage the crime scene. Kashyap, who managed an LPG cylinder business, reportedly used his experience to simulate the gas explosion.
All three accused have been booked for murder, criminal conspiracy, and arson under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Ramkesh’s family, devastated by his death, said they were “shocked beyond belief,” calling him a hardworking and disciplined young man. The case has left the Gandhi Vihar student community stunned, as the area—usually buzzing with coaching classes and civil service dreams—now stands gripped by fear and disbelief.
