Aizawl, Nov 3: Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department officials seized more than 15 kg of highly addictive methamphetamine tablets, valued at over Rs 45 crore, and arrested four drug peddlers, including two Myanmar nationals, officials reported on Monday.
The first operation took place in the New Champhai area, where officers apprehended Zamsianmanga (41) and Ronald Liana (26), residents of Myanmar’s Sagaing Division, and recovered 10.1 kg of methamphetamine tablets from them.
A separate team intercepted a vehicle near Champhai town, seizing an additional 5.11 kg of meth tablets and arresting two Indian nationals—Sahanoor Alom (26) from Assam and Golap Hussain (32) from Tripura. The car, registered in Assam, was also confiscated.

All four accused have been booked under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, with cases registered at the Champhai Police Station.
Officials said the seizures are part of ongoing efforts to crack down on cross-border narcotics trafficking from Myanmar, particularly methamphetamine tablets, locally known as Yaba or ‘party tablets’, which contain methamphetamine and caffeine and are illegal in India.
Mizoram’s porous border with Myanmar, spanning six districts—Champhai, Siaha, Lawngtlai, Hnahthial, Saitual, and Serchhip—has increasingly been exploited for smuggling drugs, exotic animals, and arms. Myanmar shares a 1,643 km unfenced border with India’s northeastern states of Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Nagaland, making it a major transit point for illegal narcotics.
