Giridih, Nov 5: More than 20 people sustained injuries after a clash erupted between two groups during a Kartik Purnima procession in Jharkhand’s Giridih district on Wednesday, officials said.

The incident took place in the Taratand police station area, where a religious procession linked to Tulsi Vivah was underway. According to local residents, a minor dispute during Tulsi Vivah rituals on Tuesday evening escalated into violence the following morning.

The confrontation intensified near the Kali temple, when members of another group allegedly tried to obstruct the procession. Tensions rose further as some participants began recording videos, provoking objections and confrontation. Soon, both sides were pelting stones and wielding sticks, causing panic in the village.

Over 20 injured individuals were initially taken to local health centers, with the more critically hurt referred to Giridih Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment.

Police from Taratand attempted to control the situation, but reinforcements were summoned from Gandey, Ahilyapur, and neighboring stations as the violence escalated. Deputy commissioner Ramniwas Yadav, SP Dr. Bimal Kumar, and SDPO Jitwahan Oraon personally supervised the response to restore order.

A large police contingent remains deployed in the area, with intensified patrolling to prevent further incidents. Officials said the administration is closely monitoring the situation.

SP Dr. Bimal Kumar stated that the clash initially stemmed from a dispute between two individuals, which later escalated into a wider group confrontation. “Strict action will be taken against all those involved in disturbing law and order,” he said.

While tensions persist, authorities maintain that the situation is currently under control, with a full investigation underway to hold the responsible parties accountable.
