Hyderabad, Nov 6: To mark the 150th anniversary of India’s national song, the Telangana government has called for a synchronized mass rendition of the full version of ‘Vande Mataram’ across all government offices and educational institutions on Friday. Chief secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao instructed District Collectors on Thursday to ensure participation in this historic commemoration.

November 7, the date of the song’s creation by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, will witness simultaneous performances at 10 a.m. in Collectorates, government offices, and educational establishments, including government, local body, aided, and recognised private institutions. District authorities have been asked to communicate instructions to all relevant departments and officials to facilitate the event.

The nationwide celebrations will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Culture in New Delhi, launching a year-long tribute culminating on November 7, 2026. Across the country, citizens from all walks of life—including students, government employees, elected representatives, police personnel, teachers, doctors, drivers, and shopkeepers—will join in the mass singing, paying homage to a song that has long symbolized India’s struggle for freedom, unity, and national pride.

Composed in 1875 by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, ‘Vande Mataram’ first appeared in the literary journal Bangadarshan as part of his novel Anandamath, before being published independently in 1882. The song continues to resonate as a timeless expression of patriotism and inspiration.
