Ahmedabad, Nov 8: A dramatic incident unfolded at a jewellery shop near the Ranip vegetable market in Ahmedabad, when a woman’s attempted robbery went wrong, leading to her being slapped nearly 20 times in just 25 seconds by the shopkeeper.
The incident, which occurred around 12:30 pm on November 3, was captured on CCTV and has since gone viral on social media. The woman, with her face covered by a dupatta, entered the gold and silver shop posing as a customer. Moments later, she suddenly threw chilli powder at the shopkeeper in an attempt to blind him and execute the robbery.

However, her plan backfired as the chilli powder missed its target. Realising the woman’s intent, the shopkeeper swiftly retaliated, getting up and slapping her repeatedly—about 20 times in 25 seconds—before jumping over the counter and dragging her out of the shop, continuing to hit her.
According to Ranip Police Station PI Ketan Vyas, the shopkeeper has declined to file a formal complaint. Despite this, police have launched an investigation to trace the woman using the CCTV footage.
The Ahmedabad Police, in an official post on X, stated that officers had met the shopkeeper twice to encourage him to file a complaint but he refused. “Nevertheless, an investigation has been initiated to search for the accused based on the CCTV footage,” the statement read.
The video of the incident has sparked widespread reactions online, with many praising the shopkeeper’s quick reflexes and courage in thwarting the attempted robbery.
