Leaders express shock over deadly Red Fort blast; Security tightened across NCR

New Delhi, Nov 10: The tragic blast near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station that claimed at least ten lives and left over a dozen injured has triggered an outpouring of grief and condemnation from political leaders across the country, including Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Taking to social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi described the explosion as “heartbreaking and deeply concerning.”

“The news of the car explosion near Delhi's Red Fort Metro Station is extremely heartbreaking and concerning. The deaths of several innocent people in this tragic incident are profoundly sorrowful. In this hour of grief, I stand with the bereaved families and hope for the swift recovery of all those injured,” he posted.

Expressing similar sentiments, Mamata Banerjee said she was “deeply shocked” by the incident.

“My heart goes out to the families who have lost their loved ones, and I pray for strength and a swift recovery for all those injured,” the West Bengal Chief Minister wrote.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, too, extended her condolences, calling the incident “heartbreaking.”

“May God grant peace to the departed souls. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the swift recovery of those injured,” she said.

The blast, which occurred on Monday evening, has sent shockwaves through the national capital, prompting heightened security and alerts across Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Mumbai.

Authorities have not ruled out a terror angle, particularly in light of the major crackdown earlier in the day by the J&K Police, which busted an inter-state terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH) in Faridabad, on the outskirts of Delhi.

Police recovered 2,900 kg of explosives, multiple firearms, timers, and electronic devices during the operation, arresting seven suspects. The seizure came after Jaish posters threatening security forces surfaced in Srinagar last month.

The timing of the Red Fort explosion — coming just a day before the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections — has further intensified concerns among intelligence agencies.

Security forces are conducting coordinated operations, while investigators are probing possible links between the Faridabad module and the Red Fort blast.
