New Delhi, Nov 11: The owner of the white Hyundai i20 that exploded near Delhi’s historic Red Fort on Monday evening, killing at least nine people, has been identified as Dr Umar Mohammad. Authorities now suspect that Dr Mohammad himself was the suicide bomber behind the deadly blast.

According to official sources, the explosion occurred around 7:20 pm, sending shockwaves through the heavily guarded area. The powerful blast destroyed the vehicle instantly and left several nearby vehicles damaged.

Investigators said the car was registered in the name of Dr Umar Mohammad, who reportedly worked in the medical field. Preliminary evidence, including body fragments and forensic samples recovered from the site, suggest that he was inside the car at the time of the explosion.

Security agencies are currently verifying Dr Mohammad’s background, his recent movements, and possible links to extremist networks.

NDTV has accessed the first picture of the alleged suicide bomber, even as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police’s Special Cell continue their joint probe.

Sources said the explosive material used in the blast indicates a high level of sophistication, pointing towards a planned act of terror rather than an accidental explosion.

Authorities have cordoned off the area and stepped up security around key landmarks in the capital. Forensic teams are combing through debris for further clues.

The explosion marks one of the most serious security breaches near the Red Fort in recent years, raising concerns ahead of the upcoming winter session of Parliament.
