Guwahati, Nov 12: Assam Police on Wednesday arrested five individuals from different districts of the state for allegedly posting and sharing inflammatory content related to Monday’s Red Fort blast in Delhi, which claimed at least 10 lives.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the arrests on X, stating, “In connection with the recent Delhi blast, Assam Police has arrested the following individuals for spreading offensive and inflammatory content online.”

The arrested have been identified as Mattiur Rahman (Darrang), Hassan Ali Mondal (Goalpara), Abdul Latif (Chirang), Wajhul Kamal (Kamrup), and Nur Amin Ahmed (Bongaigaon).

Sarma warned that the state police would continue to act “swiftly and firmly” against anyone misusing social media to spread hatred or glorify terror. “If they are expressing joy over such an incident, they must be sympathetic towards terrorists, and we are not going to tolerate this,” he said.

Police said the accused were booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), with suo motu cases registered after their posts and comments were found to be provocative.

A senior police officer said social media activity across Assam is being closely monitored, and people have been urged not to share or comment on sensitive issues.

Earlier, a retired government school principal from Cachar district was also detained for a politically charged remark about the blast but was later released after receiving a notice, officials said.
