Ferozepur, Nov 17: Tension gripped Ferozepur after Naveen Arora, 32, son of senior RSS leader Baldev Raj Arora, was allegedly shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred around 7 pm when Naveen, who ran a dupatta shop in the main bazaar, was walking home. According to police, the attackers opened fire near the Baba Noor Shah Wali dargah, with one bullet hitting him in the head. He was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Following the murder, the Arora family refused to proceed with cremation and demanded justice. BJP leader Heera Sodhi said markets, which were partially closed on Sunday, remained completely shut as traders protested the killing.

CCTV footage shows the two assailants fleeing moments after the firing. Multiple police teams led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (City) Sukhwinder Singh have been formed to trace the suspects. Ferozepur SSP Bhupinder Singh visited the Arora residence and assured swift action.

The killing has sparked outrage among local traders and RSS workers. Senior RSS functionary Ashwani Dhawan demanded immediate arrests, while shopkeepers called for stronger security.

Naveen hailed from a family deeply associated with the RSS, with both his father and late grandfather Dina Nath Arora being long-time members.

Political leaders also reacted sharply. BJP state president Sunil Jakhar criticised the AAP government, alleging Punjab was facing a law-and-order collapse. “Gangsters are running a parallel government… people are being forced to live in fear,” he said.

Minister of State (Railways) Ravneet Singh Bittu termed the murder “brutal”, saying it had shaken not just the Arora family but the entire state. He claimed criminals had become fearless and demanded tougher action.

Police said the investigation is at an early stage, with CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts expected to offer crucial leads. The motive behind the killing is yet to be confirmed.
