New Delhi, Nov 20: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday apprehended a long-running fugitive in connection with the high-profile double-murder case in Abu Dhabi that occurred in 2020. The accused, identified as Shameem K.K., was traced and arrested from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, after evading authorities for several years.
Shameem had been absconding since the registration of Kerala Police Case No. 280/2022, commonly referred to as the Shafa Sharif Murder Case, on May 10, 2022. Following his disappearance, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued, and the court later bifurcated the proceedings against him, registering a separate case as CP No. 4/2025.

The CBI took over the investigation on November 3, 2022, after the Kerala High Court transferred Crime No. 422/2022 of Nilambur Police Station to its jurisdiction.
The case concerns the deaths of two Indian nationals, Haris Thathamma Parambil and Dency Antony, who were found dead in their Abu Dhabi apartment on March 5, 2020. Investigators said Haris, a business consultant, had befriended the prime accused, Shaibin Ashraf. However, tensions arose over alleged jealousy and business rivalry, which ultimately led to a deadly conspiracy.
“The deceased Haris was providing business consultancy in Abu Dhabi, and Shaibin Ashraf became his associate,” the CBI noted in a press release. “Due to jealousy and rivalry, Shaibin hatched a plan with other accused to eliminate Haris and seize his business and assets.”
According to the CBI, Shaibin arranged travel and accommodation for co-accused individuals in Gulf countries to carry out the murders. The two victims were killed in a plot intended to stage their deaths as a double suicide.
Following a detailed probe, the CBI filed a charge sheet on October 10, 2024, against Shaibin and seven others, including the newly arrested Shameem K.K.
“After completion of the investigation, a charge sheet was filed on October 10, 2024, against Shaibin Ashraf and seven other accused, including absconding accused Shameem K.K.,” the agency said.
