Dubai, Feb 18: RAK Dolphin Ace Spikers and Bunts Dubai have won the Lourdes Kanajar cup volleyball and throwball tournaments, respectively. While RAK Dolphin defeated Chilly Willy in the volleyball category, Bunts Dubai beat Konkans Dubai in a nail-biting final round at the Sharjah Wanderers Sports Club ground.

Bunts Dubai also won the mixed throwball cup by beating Konkans Dubai.

As always, LKAE once again proved their remarkable organizing skills by hosting the volleyball and throwball tournaments for the 8th time in succession.

The windy day failed to dampen the spirits of the players and sports enthusiasts as 12 men volleyball teams, 9 women throwball teams and 9 mixed throwball teams contested for the coveted Lourdes Kanajar volleyball and throwball trophies.

The day started at 8.30 am with complimentary breakfast to all by Najmat Bangalore restaurant.  Gilbert Aranha took charge of the inaugural function and all the teams assembled in front of the stage. Frank Lobo of Galaxy Electromechanical Works LLC, Satish Shetty of SAM Electromechanical, Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief of Daijiworld, Dayan D'Souza, Ronald Saby and Aloysius D'Souza were present on the dais.

LKAE president Vijay Barboza welcomed the gathering and briefed about the organization and the charity work carried out by them. The guests were honoured with bouquets. Founder member and ex-president of LKAE Stan D'Souza spoke about the tournament and called upon all the participants to play with a spirit of sportsmanship.  Wilfred Mendonca conducted the oath-taking ceremony. National anthems of UAE and India were played by Steve D'Souza.

Pigeons were released to mark the official opening of the tournament. Youngsters of LKAE took a lap around the ground with the torch which was lit by the organizers. The throwball and volleyball matches were then officially inaugurated by the chief guests. All the league matches and semi-finals of mixed throwball were conducted in the morning session.

Afternoon session started with a nerve-wrecking mixed throwball final between Bunts Dubai and Konkans Dubai. In the end, it was Bunts Dubai who were able to keep their cool under pressure and win the finals. In ladies throwball semi-finals Bunts Dubai defeated Canarites and Konkans Dubai defeated Mangalore Konkans in keenly contested matches. In men’s volleyball semis, Chilly Willy defeated Seaman's Tigers and Ace Spikers defeated Chilly Willy Nakre.

In the finals of ladies throwball Bunts Dubai defeated Konkans Dubai, and Ace Spikers defeated Chilly Willy in four sets in men's volleyball final.

Prior to the prize distribution ceremony an auction was held for the remaining coupons for the lucky draw. Sports secretary Alwyn D'Souza proposed the vote of thanks.

Frank Lobo of Galaxy Electromechanical Works LLC, Vanita Menezes, representative of Globe Link West Star Shipping LLC, founder member of LKAE, Aloysius D’Souza, Thomas Sequeira, president of LKAE Vijay Barboza, secretary Nishal Lobo, treasurer Joy D'Souza, sports secretary Alwyn D'Souza, Thomas Saldanha and Stan D'Souza were present on the dais during the prize distribution ceremony and handed over the trophies.

Dear Santosh, I really dont understand what is the connection between bringing players from India/other countries and the crowds decreasing in number. At the end of the day, it is about enjoying the game & not about who is playing on the field. What did this comment mean: "we have enough good players in UAE who can displays some quality performance" ?. Are these players UAE nationals ? or are they all Indians at the end of the day. Before we started, the Indian national anthem was sung which meant that there is equality and no difference shown. All are Indians and proud to be one. Then y is there so much difference shown? Why wasnt this same question raised during Koosamma Shambu Shetty Memorial Throw Ball tournament or Karaval Milan. Did you suddenly realise out of the blue that there is a player with visiting visa? What makes u think that players are got from India just to lift the trophy? U just cant come to a conclusion about why they have come to the UAE. They have their own personal reasons to come here & the people who bring them here, have their own personal reasons too. I don't think they need to take someone's permission to get a person from India. You also said: "This is an social gathering/family get together for Kannadigas living in UAE". These people coming on visit visa are not living in the UAE?? Just because you have a residence visa, you needn't show off in front of others. Instead you can help these people who have visit visa get a residence visa. By the way I don't understand y do u have so much problem with a player possessing visit visa. When LKAE did not put up any such rule, then why are you questioning everyone? If any such rule comes up in the upcoming tournaments, then I'm sure all the players will abide by them. But without any such rule existing, you can't just expect the players to do things according to your wishes

Dear Roshan (M'lore/Dxb)and all those who have a problem with players who have visiting visa's, first of all there is no such rule that a player with visiting visa CANNOT play, having visiting visa is completely legal in the country and I dont understand why are all of you'll acting like kids and fighting over the issue..did the organiser's put up some rule saying: "players with valid residence visa can ONLY play?" but NO, there was NO rule like that..then why do all of you'll have such a big problem with it? Are you trying to defend your players/team just because you'll couldn't win the trophy ? & Roshan, you did NOT have to mention "Konkans Dubai" team name saying that they have a visiting visa player. Was that PLAYER too strong for your team ??? Did you ever go to check whether other teams also had players with visiting visa? Do you belong to Naturalization dept of UAE or Intelligence?? This clearly shows that you came to the ground just to find faults of who are on visit or on residence visa. Instead of enjoying the game, why were you finding out the bio data of the players ?? :-D So all of you'll, it is High time you change your mentality.. Enjoy life to the fullest, life is short. When teams from India are coming to play for the Open tournament, then y such a big commotion? Those who are on visit visa, are they our enemies ??? Why such difference shown ? and then you'll give long speeches about unity and togetherness. Please think about whatever all of you'll commented and "Disagree" with your own comments. Anyway LKAE, tournament well organised, Congrats to the Organizers and the winning teams :)

Well Mr. Victor, If I have a team and want to win, I will ensure that all the team members have a valid residence permit in UAE and will not entertain anybody with visiting visas. And regarding buying the players from other teams, you may have this kind of thought in your mind and that is the reason you are saying this but I don't have these kind of  thoughts...

    Dear Roshan,
There is not such terms & conditions from the organizers, Next time u can also form a team and bring the team members from outside the country, but before that u have to check with the organizers, for eg: If u have capacity even u can also buy the players from other teams like IPL and form good team.

If you are giving “CASH PRIZE” for the winners and runners up teams then it’s OK to take entry fees. Otherwise organizers should not take any entry fees.
I remember the tournaments conducted by Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha “NEVER” take any entry fees.

There should have been 15x3 tennis sets for mixed throw ball though it was knock out, there was so much free time during throw ball matches, I dont know what was the hurry and who decided this. The tournament was a super success kudos to organizers only this point should be considered next time. Put more professional refrees in TB couple of them were fine.

After paying Dhs 250 it is sad if you are knocked out in the first game itself. If you get at least 3 matches at the league stage then we can consider the result as fair. Just imagine, for your bad luck if your first outing is against the strongest team of the tournament.
Let all the teams unite and demand for league system, next tournament.

It was indeed well-organized in the midst of wind and sand..Hats off to you all..Only disappointing factor was that after paying the match fee, we are not allowed to enjoy the game by keeping 21 tennis points with strict rules, specially for the mixed matches. Also it was a knock-out match. All the matches got over before 1 pm too ..With this no team is actually able to show real talent and before we settle down with the game, it is over. This trend has been started lately. I request all the future organizers to look into this and find a solution. Most of the players did not even get 1 chance to even serve. We really did not enjoy the playing at all, yes ofcourse enjoyed being there watching others participate and play with the sportsman spirit. Inspite of our busy schedule and housework, we all take time to practice hard, collect money for the match fee and participate to enjoy the tournament. Pls think over it. Also request all the match referees to follow single rule. Thank you ...

First of all Congralutions to all the winning teams for showing their outstanding perfomances and winning the trophies. I do not agree with some, who say it should be a match of 15 points and not 21 table tennis. Changes are happening everywhere and new rules need to brought somewhere, where there can be a competetion based on the abilities of the palyers. If a person can play a game of 14 points, they should have the ability to play the TT points match as well. Its not depending much on the points which is played but on the performance what is shown. This is what I feel and happy to see that there are many teams participating and we should be proud of the teams who are registering their names not in the thought of defeating but in the thought of participating. If they are not there, one team cant be a runner up or winner. All the best to all the volley ball and throw ball teams in future.
One sincere request to all the readers to appreciate the participants as well.
    Cheers

I personally liked the concept of getting people from hometown, coz it increases the publicity of the concert & also the fun & competition of the game which is more important for the viewers like us.
As it is at the end of the day.. the competition is inside the court & outside the court, the players seems to hav a very friendly relation, which is more important..
i feel people coming from our HOEMTOWN doesnt harm.. moreover it adds more fun to the game and also increases the publicity
i specially enjoyed the game... all credits to the organisers for such a event and the players for makin it so entertainin...:)
hope to c such funs in future and all the best to the organisers and the teams..:)

Organisers should allow to play only the UAE residents. It is not only in volleyball but in Throw ball also, konkans Dubai mixed team had a visiting visa player. So we should also say that they are not the deserving winners. Also, Refrees should not be playing any of the teams in the same category. atleast to keep up the morality and spirit of the game.

Thank you LKAE for organising such a lovely event, itz an amazing tournament & such kind of events gives lot of relief & relaxation from a busy life style of this region. in this regard itz completely unfair to bringing players from india & other part of the world to just to lift the trophy. I strongly feels that if this practice continues then for the next year there is only 2 teams(Visiting Visa & outside Players teams)participates in the tourmnament and it also effect the crowds which is going down in numbers years by years. So here i would like to requesting the organisers please take some fair action on this. Once again thanking LKAE for the wonderfull event.

For all those who think the tournaments are commercialized, its nothing but lack of your knowledge. If the entry fees can fetch the cost of the tounament then there would be every week tounaments in UAE. The entry fees is only a token of confirmation and not revenue collection. Some time organizers should shell out from their personal pockets to meet the expenses, even any funds collected are utilized for the charities. Please note these tounaments are made open to all and not for one community like few communities do. Any objections or points to be cleared on the meeting when lots are taken. I think every organizers keep a day ahead and invite all the teams for the meeting on the day of lots.Any one dont attend and later comment is only shows they are completely not aware of the fact. Any ways well done Kanajarians keep it up. Thanks Daiji for the wonderful coverage.

Congratulations to the winners. Hats off to all the mothers who took part in this tournament. I very well agree with Ms. Sujatha, that the throwball match was played with 14 points and not with tennis points. I think the organizers should not allow the teams to bring the players from outside UAE just for the sake of winning the trophy. Be a sportsman and play the game and do not commercialize it.

This event meant to be for Kannadigas working in UAE for their social gathering and enjoyment. Congrats to the winning teams !!!
The throw ball tournaments in UAE are getting bigger and better. It is a nice get away for the ladies who are in their 30's and 40's, and otherwise very busy in managing their homes, children and husbands. It is their passion and love for the GAME gives them strength to juggle with all the day to day routine work and still take the time out for the practice. So when organizers use the GAME only with intention of making profit,Their heart bleeds.
Throw ball is a GAME of 14 regular points. Yes in today's time of 20,20 people might have started using tennis points so has to finish the game quickly but players in UAE don't belong to today's generation, then why use tennis points against them ?
Because organizers want more teams to participate and have more categories, so that they can collect more entry fees. Some teams had to pay a big amount just to play one game of 21 tennis points !!!
My only request to any organisation who want to organize a THROW BALL tournament please don't commercialize the GAME.
