Dehradun, Nov 26: Dehradun Police, under Operation Kalnemi, arrested a Bangladeshi woman who had allegedly been living illegally in India for years using forged documents and a fake Hindu identity.

The woman, identified as Babli Begum (28) from Gaibandha district in Bangladesh, had been residing in Patel Nagar under the false name Bhoomi Sharma.

Police said that Begum illegally entered India in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. After moving across several locations, she reached Dehradun in 2021. In 2022, she reportedly married a local man and subsequently obtained multiple fake Indian identity documents.

During the raid, officials recovered an Aadhaar card, Ayushman card, ration card, voter ID, and several other forged certificates issued in the name of Bhoomi Sharma, along with her original Bangladeshi identity card.

Police have registered a case for illegal stay and document forgery. Efforts are underway to identify and take action against those who helped her acquire the fake documents.

In a separate action, police detained another Bangladeshi woman, Bobby Khatun (41) from Bogura district, who allegedly entered India illegally in 2023 and had been earning a living through manual labour in Dehradun. A photocopy of her Bangladeshi passport was recovered, and she is being deported as per regulations.

Last week, another Bangladeshi national, Mamun Hasan, was arrested for living in Dehradun under the fake name Sachin Chauhan.

Under Operation Kalnemi, authorities have taken action against 17 Bangladeshi nationals so far. Eight have been jailed for living illegally with fake documents, while nine have been deported to Bangladesh.
