Faridabad man held for sheltering Red Fort blast accused

New Delhi, Nov 26: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Soyab, a resident of Dhauj near Al Falah University in Faridabad, for allegedly providing shelter and logistical support to Dr Umar-un Nabi, the main accused in the November 10 Red Fort blast. He is the seventh arrest in what investigators describe as a “white-collar” terror module.

Sources said Soyab allegedly housed Umar shortly before the attack and assisted in facilitating his movements. “The agency continues to pursue multiple leads in the suicide bombing case, conducting searches across States with support from local police to identify and track all those involved,” the NIA spokesperson said.

Investigators will now examine Soyab alongside previously arrested suspects to piece together the operational structure of the module that enabled the bomber. Efforts to unravel the larger conspiracy remain underway.

Earlier, the NIA had arrested six accused believed to be accomplices of Umar: Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganai of Pulwama, Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather of Anantnag, Dr Shaheen Saeed of Lucknow, Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay of Shopian, Amir Rashid Ali — in whose name the car was registered — and Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, who allegedly provided technical support. All remain in NIA custody.

Umar was driving a Hyundai i20 suspected to be laden with explosives when the blast occurred near a traffic crossing close to the Red Fort.

Recently, the NIA took Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganai to Al Falah University for a location-identification exercise and retraced his movements inside the campus, including his medical cabin and frequently visited areas. The team later took him to Sohna, where he reportedly identified two shops from where he purchased 1,600 kg of ammonium nitrate between December 2022 and February 2023. Shopkeepers confirmed they had provided records to police.

Ganai is also believed to have travelled frequently across the NCR in a Swift car registered to Shaheen Shahid, suspected to have been used to transport explosive materials.

Meanwhile, Faridabad Police have seized three years’ worth of fertiliser sales records from seven shops across Sohna, Nuh, Palwal and Faridabad. The details have been shared with the NIA as part of the ongoing probe.
