Patna, Nov 27: Tensions erupted in Bihar’s Nawada district after a 16-year-old boy, Sunny Kumar, died while in police custody at Kashichak police station on Thursday. Sunny, a resident of Bauri village and son of Ashok Pandit, was found dead inside the lock-up, prompting widespread unrest.

Following the incident, villagers gathered at Bauri Hospital, where Sunny’s body was taken for post-mortem, and staged protests, seizing two police vehicles. They alleged that he had been tortured while in custody.

Family members claimed Sunny’s detention stemmed from a personal dispute, as he had an alleged affair with the sister of a police constable. They demanded a thorough probe and strict action against any police personnel involved.

DSP Rakesh Kumar Bhaskar stated that Sunny was arrested on Wednesday evening in connection with the alleged affair. On Thursday, he was found unconscious in the lock-up and later pronounced dead.

“Any allegations made by the family will be investigated impartially, and appropriate action will be taken. CCTV footage at the police station will be examined, and legal action will follow based on findings,” Bhaskar said, adding that strict action would be taken against anyone found guilty.

The post-mortem report is awaited, and police are questioning personnel present at the station, with the Station House Officer directed to submit a detailed report to district authorities. The victim’s family continues to mourn and demand justice.
