Awantipora, Nov 28: In a major breakthrough against terror activities in south Kashmir, Awantipora Police along with security forces on Friday busted a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM)-linked hideout and arrested a key associate involved in providing support to the outfit.

Based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in Naner Midoora, a joint team of Awantipora Police, 42 Rashtriya Rifles and 180 Battalion CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation. During the sweep, the forces apprehended a terror associate identified as Nazir Ahmed Ganai, son of Abdul Aziz Ganai of Ganai Mohalla Nanar, who has known links with JeM.

During sustained questioning, Ganai disclosed the location of a concealed hideout in orchards owned by him. The joint team moved to the spot and unearthed the hideout, recovering two hand grenades, a detonator and explosive-like material. The seized items have been sent for further analysis. The hideout was destroyed on the spot in the presence of an Executive Magistrate.

Police said the arrested associate had been actively facilitating the transportation of arms and ammunition and providing logistical support to JeM terrorists across Tral and Awantipora. A case has been registered at Awantipora Police Station and further investigation is underway.
