Haryana woman held for drowning four children over jealousy

Panipat, Dec 3: In a chilling revelation from Haryana’s Panipat district, police have arrested a middle-aged woman accused of killing four children — including her own son and niece — out of jealousy toward girls she believed were more beautiful than her.

The latest case surfaced after the suspicious death of six-year-old Vidhi during a wedding in Naultha village. Initially thought accidental, inconsistencies in the drowning raised red flags, prompting a deeper probe.

According to investigators, the accused had a disturbing pattern: she targeted young girls she felt were “prettier” than her, drowning them in shallow water tubs or tanks. In 2023, she allegedly killed her sister-in-law’s daughter in Bohad village of Sonipat. Later, to deflect suspicion, she drowned her own son in a similar manner.

The murders, spread across her ancestral home and other locations, followed a consistent method. In one instance, the child was found dead in a tub barely one foot deep, making accidental drowning improbable.

Police said the woman would even “celebrate” after committing the crimes. “The cruel aunt would eliminate girls she considered more beautiful than herself,” a senior official told India Today.

The case was cracked within 36 hours of the latest incident. During questioning, she confessed to killing four children — three of them girls from her extended family.

Authorities confirmed that she attempted to pass each killing off as an accident, carefully staging the scenes to avoid suspicion. Further investigation is underway.
