Baroda, Jan 14: Marking the 27th anniversary of the Shashi Catering Group, the Shashi Parivar Cricket Tournament League-7 was organised on Wednesday in Baroda, Gujarat, in a day-long celebration coinciding with Makara Sankranti.

The annual cricket tournament was hosted by Shashidhar B Shetty, a well-known Tulu-Kannada entrepreneur, philanthropist, president of Gujarat Tulu Sangha, Baroda, and a native of Guruvayanakere in Beltangady taluk of Karnataka’s coastal region. The event was held at the Khanpur Sports Club ground in Laxmipura, Baroda.

The tournament was inaugurated in the morning by lighting the ceremonial lamp in memory of his mother, Kuvettu Kashi Babu Shetty, by Shashidhar B Shetty, founder chairman and managing director of Shashi Catering Services Private Limited.

Cash awards of Rs 1,000 each were personally presented by Shashidhar B Shetty to players adjudged Man of the Match, Man of the Tournament, Best Bowler, Best Batsman, and to players who hit sixes in individual matches. The winning team was honoured with a winner’s trophy, certificates and a cash prize.

Prominent members of the Shashi Parivar including Srinivas B Shetty (Baroda), Jayaram B Shetty (Delhi), Prashanth B Shetty (Baroda), Prameela Shashi Shetty, Kum Srushti Shashi Shetty, members of the Kashi family, director of Shashi Catering Services Private Limited Nilesh Dubey, vice president (operations) Ravindra Shetty Kotekar Beeri, CA Prashanth S Hegde Kauduru, senior official Madan Gowda Mudigere, and several other dignitaries were present and extended their best wishes to the players and organisers.

The tournament, organised with the support of Ravindra Shetty, Sunil Shetty, Karthik Gowda, Madan Gowda Mudigere and others, began with the national anthem. Kum Riti Shetty led the prayer. Nilesh Dubey welcomed the gathering, while Sugam Shukla served as the commentator. Sachin Shetty introduced the guests and compered the programme, and Prashanth S Hegde proposed the vote of thanks.
