Double-decker bus catches fire on Yamuna Expressway; over 60 passengers escape unhurt

Mathura, Jan 22: More than 60 passengers had a narrow escape after a double-decker bus caught fire on the Yamuna Expressway in the early hours of Thursday, officials said.

The incident occurred around 5.30 am near milestone 110 on the Agra–Noida carriageway in the Raya area. The bus, bearing registration number UP 90 AT 8837, was travelling from Banda to Delhi when the fire broke out.

According to Fire Station Second Officer (FSSO) Kishan Lal, the blaze was triggered after the rear tyre brake got jammed, leading to overheating and fire. On receiving information, four fire tenders were rushed to the spot, and firefighters took over an hour to bring the fire under control.

The driver reportedly fled the scene soon after the incident. No casualties were reported, officials confirmed.

All passengers were safely evacuated and later sent to their destinations through alternative arrangements, police said.
