Minneapolis federal agents kill armed man during operation

Minneapolis, Jan 25: A man was shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis on Saturday morning during a Homeland Security operation, officials said. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said the shooting happened as officers were carrying out a “targeted operation … against an illegal alien wanted for violent assault.”

According to DHS, an individual approached U.S. Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, and when the officers attempted to disarm him he “violently resisted.” “Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers,” a federal agent fired defensive shots, the agency said. Medics at the scene immediately delivered aid but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

DHS also said the man had two magazines and no identification, and described the encounter as a potential threat to law enforcement.

Local police and community accounts of the incident differ from the federal narrative, and the shooting has sparked protests and heightened tensions in the city.
