Khunti, Nov 6: Seven people, including three children, were killed and one person injured after an 18-wheel truck ran over a group of people on the Karra-Torpa main road in Jharkhand’s Khunti district on Thursday night, police said.
Khunti Superintendent of Police Rishabh Garg said some people had gathered on the road to help a scooter rider who had fallen into a ditch. Several women and children also assembled at the spot to watch the incident.

Meanwhile, an 18-wheel truck travelling from Torpa ran over the group while negotiating a sharp turn. The driver may not have noticed the crowd due to darkness, the police officer said.
Six people died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries during treatment. The deceased comprised three women, three children and a man.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed grief over the tragedy and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families.
In a post on X, Soren said the news of seven people losing their lives in the road accident in Karra had deeply saddened him. He prayed for peace for the departed souls and strength for the grieving families to bear the loss.
