Georgia, Jan 29: The FBI executed a search warrant on Wednesday at the Fulton County Election Hub and Operation Center, seeking records connected to the 2020 U.S. presidential election, officials confirmed. The agency described the operation as a “court-authorized law enforcement activity,” while the Atlanta field office stated that details cannot be disclosed due to the ongoing investigation.

Robb Pitts, chair of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, expressed concern over the chain of custody for election materials. “All I know is that as long as those boxes had been in the control of the county in this facility, they were safe and secure. I can no longer… satisfy citizens that those ballots are still secure,” he said. Sherri Allen, chair of the Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections, confirmed the board’s full cooperation and said the FBI remained in the building as of 8 p.m. ET.

The search comes amid heightened scrutiny over Fulton County, which has long been a focus of former President Donald Trump’s post-election claims. Trump repeatedly alleged, without evidence, that the 2020 election in Georgia was “rigged” and pressured officials to “find 11,780 votes,” matching Joe Biden’s margin of victory in the state.

State Senator Josh McLaurin described the search as “extremely alarming,” while a senior Trump administration official stated that National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard was also visiting the county on Wednesday to oversee election security measures. Pitts clarified that Gabbard had not communicated with the board during her visit.

Fulton County election workers, including Ruby Freeman and Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, were previously targeted by Trump allies with false claims of voter fraud, receiving death threats and harassment. A 2023 trial awarded them $148 million in damages after Rudy Giuliani propagated the false accusations.

The Fulton County Election Hub, opened in 2023, spans more than 261,000 square feet dedicated to election staff, operations, and equipment. While the investigation continues, local officials reaffirmed that the 2020 elections were conducted fairly and legally.

The FBI’s search underscores ongoing federal scrutiny into the events surrounding the 2020 election, particularly in key battleground counties like Fulton.
